A car ownership cost calculator

People buying a car ask about the price when they should be asking about the running cost. This calculator works out fuel, servicing and insurance, compares two cars side by side, and ends with a verdict on whether it is worth it.

Industry: Car cost calculator, own project

In short

  • Live: ilekosztujeauto.pl
  • Thirty models and ninety-seven engine variants in the database
  • Two cars compared side by side, no sign-up
  • Google Analytics 4 wired up, site in Search Console

About the project

A free tool for somebody choosing a used car who has no idea what they will really spend over a year. They enter the model year, fuel consumption and annual mileage, and get the monthly and yearly cost of fuel, servicing and insurance.

The challenge

A calculator is useless if it demands numbers you do not have. So it needed a database of popular models with ready values, while still allowing everything to be typed in by hand. And the result had to be honest rather than flattering.

Goals

  • Produce a figure in seconds, with no account
  • Ship ready data for the most common models
  • Let two cars be compared side by side
  • End with a concrete verdict, not just a table

Technical challenges

Real consumption, not the brochure figure

The stored values are an operating estimate, higher than the WLTP claim, because that is what real driving looks like. Otherwise the calculator would understate the cost and mislead people.

A verdict instead of raw numbers

After the calculation the user gets a YES, CONDITIONAL or NO, with reasoning. A cost table alone does not answer the question a person actually has.

No sign-up, no data harvesting

The tool calculates straight away, does not ask for an email address and does not lock the result behind a form.

Solution and implementation

Pick a model or enter your own numbers

The database covers thirty models across ninety-seven engine variants, from a Golf to a Yaris, petrol, diesel and hybrid. Anyone with a different car types the numbers in.

Public and indexable

The site is open to search engines, has correct structured data, and Google Analytics 4 and Search Console are wired up.

Results

An answer in seconds

Instead of building a spreadsheet, the user picks a model and immediately sees the monthly and yearly figure.

Comparison instead of a hunch

Two cars side by side show a difference in running cost that is often larger than the difference in purchase price.

Takeaways

A free tool builds visibility too

Something that genuinely answers the user's question collects search traffic better than another article on the same subject.

Yes, Google Analytics 4 is wired up and the site is submitted to Search Console.
